Living room decor: ideas for a cosy home this Christmas

With the festive season almost upon us, it’s important to have an inviting living room where friends and family will linger. A warm atmosphere will create an intimate ambience for guests. But given the rising cost of living, creating a snug feel in an economically effective way is more crucial than ever. The good news is transforming your living space into a welcoming haven is achievable with some careful consideration and the right finishing touches. So, we asked our commercial director Jody how to make your lounge feel cosier by ensuring it’s properly heated and styled for Christmas visitors. Here’s his guide…

Warm up with metallics

Introducing a warm metallic finish to your living room radiator, such as copper, can add a glorious glow to your living space. Then, look to layer the textures and boost the tactile elements of your room. Adding a deep-pile monochrome floor rug to your living room decor can feel toasty underfoot, while a placing sheepskin rug over a pouffe creates a soft feel. Continue to cosy up by placing a chunky throw on a white sofa.

Take a dual focus on living room decor

Keep temperatures raised by using the best of both worlds in open-plan environments. Gather guests around the fire to toast their cheeks by a wood burner while keeping the room heat constant with a radiator. You could splash a rich colour, such as purple, on the fireplace to create depth against the brickwork. Or use wooden beams for a cosy feel in a minimalist room design. Position a footstool by the fire so visitors can warm their toes. Then, finish your living room decor with refined pendant lighting.

Maximise heat productivity with our mild steel Bosun range. Available in vertical or horizontal formats, these lower water content radiators generate amazing output for their size

Go back to classics

A classic-style living room deserves a timeless cast-iron radiator to match. So, set wooden panelling on a feature wall with neutral shades and strike a contrast with monochrome cast-iron radiators. Continue the theme with black and white prints, establishing a talking point for your living room decor over the fire. Focus furniture around this central area. Try placing a soft-furnished armchair by the fireplace, allowing guests to bask in the warmth. Grouping your seating can give an intimate feel, so position the armchair at an angle opposite a sofa. Create a soft ambience by placing scented candles along the surround. Or huddle lanterns around the hearth, in the absence of a real fire.

Match the finish to your living room environment. Our 2 column cast iron radiator is available in standard finishes (such as Graphite Black pictured). Why not consider a distinctive Lacquered Satin Polished finish? It’s the perfect fit for more traditional themes to give your space a stately feel

Nod to nostalgia

Mounting shelves above a radiator in an open-plan room and filling them with family photos can add to the nostalgia of a room. It can really make the room feel homely while making the most of the space available. Use a bookcase or coffee table to showcase your favourite reading material, mementos or plants for a personalised feel to your living room decor.

Add a contemporary edge to a neutral room by opting for our mild steel model Cassius in a white finish. This radiator, which is available in vertical and horizontal formats, is a stylish accompaniment to grey-toned brick walls

Create a cocoon with your living room decor

Turn up your radiator colour with a fiery orange tone for an instant heat injection. Shades such as oranges, creams, reds and dark greens will cocoon your room. Then, echo the colour pop with auburn scatter cushions on your sofa for a cohesive feel. Contrast these bright orange accents with dark woods and add luxurious golden tones to your living room decor for a decadent look. From room accessories such as candlesticks to wall paint, gold touches will bounce light back into the room reflecting and accentuating the glow.

Relish the Rainbow. Over 300 colours are available from stock for our flat panel model Tornado. A matt finish can also be arranged for this mild steel radiator. Don’t forget to check-in with us for other shade options if the colour you need isn’t shown
