Time to Replace Your Radiator?

When it comes to taking on a new home renovation, a new radiator may not be at the top of the list! However, they are an important staple to any room. With the growing popularity of designer radiators, they are now used as feature points in the rooms they are installed in.

So do you know if it’s time to replace your radiator?

How Old Are Your Radiators?

One of the main indicators that it may be time to replace your radiators is the age of the radiator.

The lifespan of most Mild Steel radiators is 5-15 years, at this point your radiators may become less efficient or the integrity of the steel may start to deteriorate, causing further issues such as corrosion or leaks.

Are Your Radiators Corroding/Leaking?

This may seem like an obvious one, albeit an irritating reason! But unfortunately, steel does have the potential to fail and leaks can form. If your radiator is in warranty, it will usually be covered and able to be repaired/replaced, depending on what is outlined in the guarantee.

In regards to corrosion, as water runs through the system, it is inevitable that corrosion will become a problem. It is important to keep your system regularly checked. If it is left unchecked, the corrosion can build up and cause sludge that will block the water resulting in insufficient heat output.

Are You Looking for More Energy Efficient Options?

You don’t always have to replace your radiators because something is wrong! During renovations, many people choose to upgrade their heating systems to include more stylish, or more energy efficient options.

This year we have made a conscious effort to build on our portfolio to include more efficient radiators and towel rails, including more electric options, aluminium ranges and cast iron radiators. You can check out those new products over on our “Products to help save on your heating bill” blog.

Not Ready to Replace?

Not ready to say goodbye yet? There are plenty of ways to extend the life of your radiator and most of these are down to maintenance and upkeep.
