DQ Heating

In a world driven by convenience, sustainability has often taken a back seat — but that needs to change. If we’re serious about protecting our planet, businesses must go beyond good intentions and take measurable action. Being a sustainable business means evaluating your environmental impact at every stage — from sourcing and manufacturing to delivery. Ethical procurement, greener operations, and waste reduction aren’t optional extras; they’re essential steps in building a future-fit business.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but each improvement helps. Not only will this reduce your footprint, but it also strengthens your brand and builds lasting trust with customers. Now is the time to shift from convenience to conscience — and commit to sustainable practices that truly make a difference. This is one of the major reasons why DQ are committed to making a change with how we do business and in this blog we’ll outline recent changes and future goals for a greener, more sustainable business!

Powdercoating:

As part of our commitment to becoming a more sustainable business, we’re proud to use an environmentally responsible powder coating process that aligns with our core values.

Our powder coating system uses some of the most energy-efficient products available on the market today — with no solvents involved. It’s a cleaner, greener choice that significantly reduces environmental impact without compromising on quality.

At the heart of our process is the advanced Gema Powder Gun, which uses state-of-the-art technology to deliver superior paint application while minimising waste and emissions. This equipment helps us achieve high-performance finishes with greater precision and efficiency — all while lowering our carbon footprint.

Powder coating itself is inherently sustainable. Unlike conventional liquid paints, which rely on flammable solvents packed with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), powder coating uses finely ground particles that are electrostatically charged and sprayed directly onto surfaces. Because it’s a dry process, there are no VOCs, no hazardous emissions, and far less environmental harm.

In choosing powder coating, we’re not only improving the durability and appearance of our products — we’re also making a conscious choice to reduce our impact on the planet. It’s another step forward in our journey to operate as a truly sustainable business.

Packaging:

Our journey towards becoming a truly sustainable business is built on real, measurable change — and one of our proudest achievements to date is the transformation of our packaging process.

In 2022, we introduced a new state-of-the-art cardboard packaging machine, allowing us to significantly reduce both waste cardboard and, more importantly, our reliance on plastic. We’ve made it a priority to eliminate plastic from our packaging wherever possible, and thanks to this innovative solution, we now despatch our radiators with packaging that contains as little as 5% plastic — a result we’re incredibly proud of.

Designed entirely in-house, our packaging not only aligns with our environmental goals but also ensures that every product arrives in perfect condition. Plus, it supports more efficient order fulfilment, meaning stocked products ordered by 3:30pm can be shipped the very same day — without compromising on quality or sustainability.

This is just one of the many ways we’re embedding environmental responsibility into our day-to-day operations as we continue our mission to operate as a sustainable business.

Moving Forward to a Sustainable Business:

At DQ Heating, we know that building a truly sustainable business is a gradual process. It requires thoughtful planning, clear goals, and a long-term vision — and we’re actively putting the foundations in place to drive real, lasting progress.

That’s why we’ve created a clear Sustainability Roadmap to 2030, designed to guide our actions and keep us accountable as we continue our journey towards a greener future.

Here’s what we’re working towards:

Products:

Increase the use of aluminium and recycled aluminium so that by 2030, they represent 50% of our total product sales.

Environment & Waste:

Achieve zero waste to landfill across all areas of the business.

Become a paper-free company, embracing digital systems wherever possible.

Ensure all plastic and polythene packaging contains at least 50% recycled content.

Our Offices & Fleet:

Transition all office operations to renewable energy sources.

Move to a fully electric vehicle fleet, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

This roadmap is a key part of our wider commitment to operating as a sustainable business. It reflects our belief that responsible practices today are essential to creating a better tomorrow — for our customers, our community, and the planet.

We know the path ahead is ambitious, but every step we take brings us closer to the kind of future we want to build.
